The sign-up list for the April 2013 Dewey’s Read-a-Thon posted this week. I am all in!
My goal is to read at least 10 books. My read-a-thon strategy is to read books under 200 pages and books of short stories so that I feel like I am making good progress. I’ll have a back-up list just in case I don’t like what I chose – or better yet, I finish all 10 books ahead of time.
Please drop by on April 27, 2013 to discuss what I am reading or to cheer me on. I am going to need it.
What books are you planning to read?
Here’s my tentative reading list:
Gnit-Wit Gnipper and the Perilous Plague
Author: TJ Lantz
ISBN-10: 1475186894
Paperback: 40 pages
This children’s book will give me a quick “check mark” on my “Read” list.
first love, last rites
Author: Ian McEwan (bestselling author of Atonement: A Novel)
ISBN-10: 0679750193
Paperback: 165 pages
McEwan won the Somerset Maugham award for this collection of short stories. The title story was adapted into the film First Love Last Rites starring Natasha Gregson Wagner and Giovanni Ribisi. I’ll watch the movie online (for free) when I am done with the read-a-thon as a reward.
Not from Concentrate
Author: David Wallace Fleming
ASIN: B0052FR1CI
Ebook: 183 pages
I assume that at some point my eyes will get tired or I’ll get hungry. I downloaded the MP3 audiobook version of this collection of short stories for hands-free and eyes-free reading. It’s free for a limited time on CDbaby.com.
Burnt Toast: Musings on living, loving and saying goodbye
Author: Lenore Skomal
ISBN-10: 1461156408
Paperback: 164 pages
I thought that the title of this collection of weekly humor columns was fitting. I am pretty sure that I will feel like burnt toast at some point during this 24-hour read-a-thon.
Breaking Through By Grace: The Bono Story [NOW READING!]
Author: Kim Washburn
ISBN-10: 0310721237
Paperback: 112 pages
It’s about Bono. BONO. Need I say more?
The Lotus Keeper
Author: K.R. Dial
ASIN: B008AM5EOM
Paperback: 203 pages
Yes. It is a smidgen over 200 pages. I need to read a book with something yellow on the cover to complete task #20.6- Messing Around for The Seasonal Reading Challenge on Goodreads.
No Shelter: A Post-Apocalyptic Romance
Author: T.S. Welti
ISBN-10: 1477668578
Paperback: 102 pages
This is the first book of the omnibus edition of the No Shelter Trilogy (Books 1, 2, and 3: No Shelter, Left Behind, and Buried Alive). A Post-Apocalyptic Romance? Sounds intriguing. And the ebook is free for Kindle and Kindle Reading Apps (download free apps) for a limited time.
Fish Tank: A Fable for Our Times
Author: Scott Bischke
ISBN-10: 0982594712
Paperback: 144 pages
I am going to re-read this fable. It is suitable for all ages. I created a Pinterest board for the book so that I could get an idea of what the animals in the fish tank looked like.
Rediscovering Life: Awaken to Reality
Author: Anthony De Mello
ISBN-10: 030798494X
Paperback: 128 pages
“Rediscovering Life is a timeless and compassionate book that will awaken you to the beauty of human experience…”
Level 26: Dark Origins
Authors: Anthony E. Zuiker (creator of the CSI television franchise) & Duane Swierczynski
ISBN-10: 0451232380
Paperback: 432 pages
I thought this book might be good to break up the monotony – in spite of its length and subject. It has video extras so I can read and watch. “About every twenty pages, you will have the option of logging in to experience a digital cyber-bridge—a three-minute motion picture scene with A-list actors you might’ve seen in blockbuster films and award winning TV shows. Before your eyes, the characters will spring to life, crime scene details will explode off the screen… ” By the way, there are 20+ copies (paperbacks + hardcovers) of Dark Origins available on PaperBackSwap.com right now. The hardcover ISBN is 0525951253. Order a copy and read along with me.
Looks like a good stack of books, good luck with the readathon, I’m participating too, it’s my first time. I think it’s going to be really difficul but I can’t wait. 🙂
I’ll drop by your blog to cheer you on!
Thanks and ditto!
Also random question – but I couldn’t help noticing at the bottom of your blog you have a banner saying you earn a small commission if people click on Amazon etc through your blog. Do you mind me asking how you set that up? It sounds really awesome. 🙂
I filled out affiliate applications at each site (links are usually at the bottom of sites). Ex. to become an Amazon Affiliate, I filled out the application at http://affiliate-program.amazon.com/. I don’t really make much money. But it makes me feel better to think that my book obsession “could” make money 🙂
Haha true, very true! Thanks a lot, I will check these out. 🙂
I am impressed! This time around I’m going to focus on cheerleading and listening to audio books. Hope you make it to your goal!
Thanks! My fingers are crossed. I’ll drop by your blog to cheer you on. What audiobooks are you planning on reading?
Hi! It’s Ann A from the Goodreads SRC. Great list of books you have there! I’m hoping to get my stack together today (can’t leave these important decisions until the last minute, you know.) I’ll be popping in to check on you Saturday. Good luck!
Thanks! If only I had been on top of my food list so early. I forgot about eating. LOL. Good luck to you too!
I’m still trying to put together the books I plan to read. It all depends on what comes in the library.
I am making a last minute run to the library today. Then I am headed to the grocery store. Happy reading!
